When it comes to the outcome of wedding photography, weather undoubtedly plays one of the most important roles. After a wonderful engagement session with Atheena and Kirk, I began imagining their wedding day. I pictured the silos, the barn house, and the fresh spring greens of Neshanic Valley Golf Course. But one week before the wedding, the forecast predicted rain for the entire weekend.Immediately, I began planning how to work around the weather while hoping the rain would at least remain gentle. I prepared three possible time slots throughout the wedding day for quick portrait sessions during breaks in the rain. I packed clear umbrellas, extra lighting equipment, and even colored LED lights for special colored indoor pictures. On the wedding day, not only did it rain—it came with strong wind, my worst nightmare as a photographer. Yet the moment I stepped into Atheena’s bridal suite, I felt an unexpected sense of peace. There was no disappointment about the weather. Instead, the room was filled with laughter, warmth, and excitement shared among friends and family. What followed became one of the most joyful and relaxed bridal preparation sessions I’ve experienced.Even though Atheena and Kirk showed me how fully they could enjoy their wedding day despite the uncooperative weather, I still felt something was missing. A house of celebration sat isolated within a windy, rain-soaked field. I wanted to turn that disappointment into an adventure. After the ceremony, I scouted a small spot just outside the building and asked Atheena and Kirk if they would give me five minutes—or less—for a quick photo session in the rain and wind.Graciously, they said yes.

When I reviewed the photographs after the wedding day, those few outdoor images felt like a unique accessory added to an already beautiful dress—small, unexpected details that gave the story even more character.

In a way, they also became a reminder of the adventure we shared together.

Atheena joked that her wedding day was the day she kissed the most in her life.

From my experience working with them—from their engagement session to the wedding day—their love was never dramatic or loudly displayed. It was quiet and understated. Their connection lived instead in small, everyday interactions.

At one point, I noticed them spending time together at their sweetheart table, playing with an Instax camera. The scene felt full of story, almost like a moment from a movie. They had told me they were not comfortable posing in front of a camera, yet those small, natural expressions and interactions revealed so much about their relationship.

A roll of Kodak Ultramax film gave this wedding a different color palette—a different mood and perspective through which to remember the day.

Special shout out for Rebel Strings; A string duet of violin and viola added realtime dynamic for audio and also visual in a event that is not a canned music can replaced. As a music lover and father of two musician, I truly believe how live music move people no recording can do.
