Some wedding venues impress with their size. A Garden Party captivates with its heart.

When I met Alyssa and Brian at The Garden Party that morning, we could not hide our disappointment with the weather. It was a sunny day, but the wind was incredibly strong—especially challenging for a wedding centered around an outdoor floral garden setting.

We quickly adjusted our plans, deciding to take some indoor portraits inside the garden shop while doing our best to work with the windy conditions outside. I was very thankful for the trust Alyssa gave me in handling the situation, including the decision to move the family portraits indoors.

The floral arrangements were breathtaking. They blended beautifully into the garden setting, and I truly felt it would have been a waste not to incorporate them into the photographs.

However, the wind not only tossed everyone’s hair around, but also brought the temperature down significantly. It quickly became uncomfortable to stay outside for too long under the strong wind.

The ceremony was also moved inside, but the atmosphere remained joyful and heartfelt. In many ways, the intimate indoor setting allowed me to capture genuine reactions and preserve the warmth of the moment.

Right after the ceremony, as the bridal party exited the hall, we immediately began the group portraits. Thanks to the fun and energetic bridal party, everyone interacted naturally with one another and with me during the session. Since it was midday, the sun sat directly overhead, creating strong shadows on people’s faces. To balance the harsh light, I used a powerful flash to soften and remove those shadows.

The result carried a spontaneous “paparazzi-style” energy. Combined with the lively personalities of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the entire session was filled with laughter and excitement—even under the relentless wind.

I used a roll of Lomography 400 color negative film for this wedding because of its lower saturation and the way it emphasizes a pastel color palette look. I wanted to create a different mood from the bright, vivid floral look typically produced by digital photography.

When Alyssa turned to toss her bouquet to the unmarried women at the party, she surprised everyone with a playful trick. Instead of throwing it into the crowd, she walked over and handed it to her beloved grandmother—the woman who had raised her. It was both inspiring and deeply touching, a beautiful way to honor someone she loved while creating one of the emotional highlights of the celebration.

I also loved the idea that Alyssa and Brian set up a bouquet bar where guests could pick individual blooms and arrange their own bouquets. It added such a personal and thoughtful touch to the celebration.

Looking back, Alyssa and Brian's wedding was a reminder that beautiful weddings are not defined by perfect weather. They are defined by the people, the atmosphere, and the joy shared throughout the day. Surrounded by flowers, family, and friends, their celebration was filled with warmth, authenticity, and countless moments worth remembering.
